Section D: Special Procedures

III-D-4 Cancellation of Classes

General Policy. The University will maintain scheduled classes and stated hours of business unless there is explicit announcement to the contrary. In the event of inclement weather or other emergency condition, regularly scheduled classes will be suspended and offices that are not deemed essential will be closed.

Ordinarily, emergency closings will be invoked before 7:00 a.m. if day classes are to be cancelled and not later than 4:00 p.m. if evening classes are to be cancelled on a day during which classes have otherwise been held as scheduled.

Classes at off-campus locations will be suspended only if the facilities in which these classes are held are closed.

Special events may be postponed or cancelled independently of the emergency plans invoked for regularly scheduled classes and office hours. Those responsible for the conduct of the events should notify the Office of Campus Programs of such postponements or cancellations.

Announcement of Emergency Closing. The Provost will make the announcement of an emergency closing after appropriate consultation.

Information about closing will be disseminated through radio and television stations, the computer network (http://www.cua.edu), and through recorded message on tel. 202-319-5000.

If an emergency plan is invoked during regular office hours, the Vice President will inform the Deans and Directors who will in turn communicate the information through administrative channels within their purview.

Unless there is an announcement to the contrary, classes and office hours will be resumed at the usual time on the following day.
