How to Use the Policies Page

Q. What if I want to know the additional history of a policy, or find an earlier version of a policy?

A. The policy page, to the extent possible, will contain archives of past versions of a policy. From the current policy page, click the highlighted Additional History link. This link will take you to a page with dates. See for example, the Equal Opportunity Policy. If you click on the additional history link, you will come to this page: http://policies.cua.edu/Archives/EEO//archaffirmact.cfm. On this page, there will be a date: 6/25/05, which is in blue. If you click on the date, it will take you to the archived version of the policy, that is, the policy in place immediately prior to the current policy. Similarly, if you click on the link that has the date 3/1/87, you will find the original version of the policy.

Q. What if there is no archived version of the policy, but I believe that there was an earlier version?

A. If there is no archived version on the additional history page, this means we did not have the policy in electronic format. You will then need to consult the older versions of print documents such as the Announcements, the Student Handbook, the Faculty Handbook, and the Staff Handbook.

Q. What if I cannot remember the name of a policy, and I cannot find it on the web page?

A. Click on Policies Home at the upper left hand corner of the web page. The search box is located on the left hand side of the page, below the topic headings, at the very bottom of the page. Type any word in the search box, and all policies with that word contained anywhere in the policy will appear. The one exception is new policies. It takes anywhere from 1 to 30 days for Google to cache the policy.

Q. Where do I find new policies?

A. New policies, and revised policies, will be listed under the new and revised box on the right. You can click directly to the policy from that box.

Q. How do I find policies by subject area?

A. The topic headings on the left hand side of the policies home page, which are in the gray box, will expand when you click on them, to reveal a list of policies. For example, click on Faculty and you will see a drop down menu of all relevant faculty policies.

Q. I am on a policy page, and I have scrolled down to the lower left hand side, but can't find the search box. Where is it?

A. The search box only appears on the home page.

Q. What about related procedures?

A. Procedures and guidelines related to policies will generally live on the home page of the area in which they reside. For example, the Copyright Guidelines are housed on the Office of General Counsel home page. However, every attempt will be made to link to the related procedures from the policy. See the Additional References line on the top half of the policy page, and click on the hyperlink. If you are aware of related procedures that are not linked, please feel free to forward them to odonnelm@cua.edu for linking.
