7/23/15:  Minor revisions were made to clarify the practices regarding oral examinations and copyright.

3/19/12: In order to clarify policy for compliance with State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV) regulations, the following clarifying sentence was added to Section IV. B of the Policy with permission of the Provost. 

Credits earned at The Catholic University of America are transferrable to other institutions at the sole discretion of the receiving institution.

3/12/12: Revised to include a definition of "credit hour" per Department of Education's Program Integrity Rules.

August 2006: Policy conformed to print version of Announcements. Under Comprehensive Examination:

Added text in blue: Students must register, before the conclusion of the Add/Drop Period, for the comprehensive examination for the semester in which they plan to take it.

Deleted: Candidacy for the doctoral degree begins formally on the first day of the semester following school and departmental approval of the admission to candidacy.

Added: Candidacy for the doctoral degree can begin formally on the first day of the semester following successful completion of the comprehensive exam.

8/19/05: Policy was reformatted according to the standard template. No changes were made to the substance of this policy.
